Organizations and Clubs
Robotics
The Robotics program at the Minnesota State Academies gives students hands-on experience in design, engineering, and problem-solving through an exciting partnership with VEX Robotics and the REC Foundation. This collaboration allows our school to offer students the opportunity to explore robotics at no cost, fostering creativity, teamwork, and innovation.
Learning Through Robotics
Students and teachers gain access to robotics kits, curriculum materials, and training, making it easy to integrate robotics into the classroom. These tools help students develop skills in critical thinking, programming, and mechanical design while working together to solve real-world challenges.
Competition Opportunities
Each year, the REC Foundation and VEX Robotics release a new robotics challenge in late April. Students then design, build, and program their own robots to tackle that challenge, either beginning immediately or starting in the fall.
MSA participates in two competition levels:
- VEX IQ Challenge (Middle School) – focuses on teamwork, problem-solving, and foundational robotics skills.
- VEX Robotics Competition (High School) – challenges students to apply advanced design and programming in competitive, fast-paced events.
No prior experience is required. Just curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to learn! Robotics at MSA inspires students to explore STEM fields while building confidence and collaboration skills for the future.

Student Body Government
The Student Body Government at the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf provides students with opportunities to develop leadership skills, foster school spirit, and represent the voices of their peers. Members collaborate with staff and administrators to plan school events, promote positive change, and strengthen the sense of community across campus. Participation in SBG helps students build confidence, learn about civic responsibility, and make a lasting impact on school life at MSAD.
International Studies Club
The International Studies Club connects students with cultures, languages, and communities around the world through hands-on learning and global engagement. Students explore topics such as geography, world history, Deaf culture around the globe, and international communication. The club also provides opportunities for cultural exchange and travel, most notably, students are preparing for an educational trip to New Zealand in Spring 2026, where they will learn about Deaf education, culture, and community abroad.
